The news on foreign investment in Spain, published in March of this year, shows that in 2023 it reached 28,215 million euros in foreign investment. This figure is at the average of the last five years, highlighting an increase of 12% compared to 2022, which translates into 5,680 million euros earmarked for projects to increase productive capacity and employment.
This increase in investment has a direct impact on the franchise sector, offering significant opportunities for growth. The sectors receiving the most investment were the services sector (54.3% of the total), the industrial sector (42.2%), and construction (3%). Among the most prominent subsectors were wholesale trade, telecommunications, and electricity and fuels.
The diversification of investments is notable, with the United States leading as the main source of investment flows (28.9%), followed by the United Kingdom (13.1%), Germany (10.6%) and France (9.2%). In addition, the increase in investment from countries such as Australia, Switzerland, Canada and Mexico reflects an increasingly attractive environment for international franchises.
In terms of investment projects, Spain stands out globally. In 2023, our country was the largest recipient of greenfield projects in the renewable energy sector, third in R&D activities, fifth in artificial intelligence, and tenth in information technology and internet infrastructure. This focus on high-value-added sectors opens new opportunities for franchise expansion in these fields.
In summary, the increase in foreign investment not only validates confidence in the Spanish market but also provides a solid foundation for the growth and expansion of franchises across various key sectors.
